Hi
I just this minute stumbled onto your blog from Frugal Hacks. That bird is a painted bunting. I live in South Carolina and see them sometimes in early spring, never this time of year. His wife is a beautiful shade of green. The only green bird it the eastern United States.
That is a painted bunting. If you google it in, you will see a beautiful picture of one. We had to look it up as we recently spotted one in our yard. Also, the females are a light green, so keep on the look-out!!!
Hello Mavis! Mom has some that come to her feeders every year. They are quite striking when the indigo bunting, the cardinals and the red house finches are all at the feeder at the same time! Great recipes. I am glad soemone sent me a link to your blog! Lacey
The "Arkansas Backyard Birds" book says, 'The painted bunting is considered by many to be the most beautiful Arkansas bird.' So, it is indeed native to Arkansas.

Welcome to the Homemaker's Paradise.
We'll have to keep a lookout for his wife. We've seen them off and on for a couple of years now but didn't know what they were. Thanks!
We live in Arkansas...I wonder if they are native to this area.
